Aging as a Key Player in the Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disorders

Abstract: An extremely high blood vessel pressure, called hypertension, may result in myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, stroke, and possibly death. The increase of obesity and a population that is older are contributing to the increasing global epidemic of hypertension. A third of the world’s population is affected by hypertension. Related to age, adverse outcomes include arterial stiffness, cholinergic and neurohormonal dysregulation, changes in physiological blood flow, and decreased renal function. outlines recent antihypertensive guidelines applicable to older individuals, based on currently available data. The level of frailty and psycho-social aspects must be taken into account while developing management methods for hypertension in older persons. Diuretics, calcium channel blockers, and reninangiotensin system blockers used in antihypertensive therapy have all been proven to improve cardiovascular outcomes in elderly individuals. Younger generations must undergo lifestyle changes to prevent hypertension as they mature. In this review, I will discuss how the drug is prescribed safely to elderly patients and how its mechanism of action works to reduce hypertension and mitigate adverse effects in elderly patients.

Investigation of Phytocomponents and Gc-Ms Analysis of Ethanolic Extract of Sargassum Polycystum C.Agradh

Abstract: Aim: To qualitatively analyse the chemical composition in ethanolic extract from the whole part of Sargassum polycystum C.Agradh. by gas chromatography – mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). Methods: The dried entire part of Sargassum polycystum C. agardh was filtered after completion of cold maceration using a muslin cloth and Whatman filter paper, and an ethanolic extract was obtained using a cold maceration extractor. Results: The solubility level of different solvents in ethanol, chloroform, and methanol was higher in Sargassum polycystum. Then hexane, ethyl acetate, benzene and acetone were sparingly soluble in Sargassum polycystum. The physicochemical parameters of Sargassum polycystum dried were found to be total ash (6.74% w/w), water-soluble ash (1.23% w/w), acid-soluble ash (2.24% w/w), and loss on drying (5.99% w/w), which were also determined. The phytochemical screening of Sargassum polycystum C. Agardh reveals the presence of various phytochemical compounds, including alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, lipids, carbohydrates, and steroids—the absence of phytochemical compounds such as proteins, saponins, tannins, volatile oil and phenols. GC-MS analysis detected three active components in the ethanolic extract [1]. The identification of phytochemical compounds is based on retention time, molecular formula, peak area, and molecular weight, as presented.

Abstract: Physicians working in the field of skin care promote photoprotection as the most effective preventive health strategy. Although it is ideal to avoid the sun as much as possible, many people’s jobs and lifestyles necessitate exposure to it. Acute impacts of sunlight on the skin include erythema and pigmentation, as well as long-term consequences including photoaging and photocarcinogenesis. The goal of photoprotection is to limit exposure to the sun and halt the progression of actinic damage. Topical, oral, and mechanical photoprotection, as well as photoprotection education, are all types of photoprotection. It is recommended that initiatives targeting children, adolescents, adults, and external employees be implemented. Advertising in the media is highly significant and beneficial. Physical and chemical sunscreens are two types of topical sunscreens. Physical filters are inorganic, mineral-based filters that improve UV (ultraviolet) radiation reflection. By absorbing UV radiation, chemical or organic filters alter the molecular structure of the material. All individuals over the age of six months are advised to wear sunscreen, and it is best to use broad-spectrum products with an SPF of at least 30. Combining oral photoprotection with mechanical sun protection techniques, such as clothing, hats, sunglasses, window covers, and shade, appears to provide a significant benefit.

Abstract: Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is a highly essential chemical compound used regularly under numerous circumstances. It is a clear, yellowish liquid that is inflammable and a strong oxidant. It has been used for many years and is recommended as the disinfectant of choice to prevent the spread of infection and cross-infection between healthcare professionals and patients. The current COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated its use in abundance not only in healthcare units, but also in public places. It is like a double-edged sword that requires careful follow-up of a set of protocols and precautions during its use to avoid its side effects and health problems among healthcare workers and the public.

Review of a Few Selected Examples of Intermolecular Dioxygenases Involving Molecular Oxygen and Non-Heme Iron Proteins

Abstract: Molecular oxygen and non-heme iron proteins (NHIPs) are proteins that have an iron atom bound to one or more oxygen atoms, and are found in bacteria, archaea, and some eukaryotes. NHIPs are involved in various biological processes, including respiration, electron transfer, and catalysis. They can be categorised into two classes: cytochrome proteins, which are involved in electron transfer, and oxygenases, which catalyse the oxidation of substrates using molecular oxygen. NHIPs are critical for multiple biological processes, and their impairment has been associated with diseases such as anemia, cancer, and neurological disorders.
