<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Abstract:</strong> Cassava is a root crop cultivated mainly for its starchy roots, food stability and the most critical energy source root crop in tropics. In Ethiopia, cassava is grown in specific areas of the southern regions, offering several advantages over other cereals as a staple food in areas with poor soil conditions, uncertain rainfall, and limited market infrastructure. Despite research on crop adaptability, selection, nutritional, and antinutritional factors, there is a lack of information on the overall status, challenges, and the future role of cassava production in Ethiopia. This paper, therefore, aims to provide a brief overview of the genetic improvement, agronomic research, nutritional aspects, biochemical analysis, anti-nutritional factors, disease and insect pest management, and future research directions of cassava in Ethiopia. It highlights the description of cassava, its agroecology, and the contribution of cassava as both a food crop and a source of animal feed. Moreover, genetic improvement, agronomic research, nutritional, medicinal, and anti-nutritional research, harvesting, processing, utilisation, as well as cassava diseases and insect pests, are discussed. Since the inception of cassava research in Ethiopia, various research findings have been obtained and recorded, including the development of different varieties, agronomic practices, crop protection technologies, biochemical analyses for nutritional composition, and anti-nutritional factors. The availability of these outputs in a compiled and comprehensive manner is crucial for enhancing cassava production and productivity in Ethiopia, and for influencing policymakers to consider cassava as one of the prominent food and nutrition security crops in the country. Hence, the article can serve as a valuable reference resource for researchers, students, agricultural extension workers, and NGOs working in Ethiopia in root crops, particularly cassava.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Abstract:</strong> Background: Medicines for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are essential in the management of patients with NCDs; therefore, they must be readily available to patients at health facilities. Objective: This study aimed to assess the availability of medicines used in the management of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, asthma and epilepsy in public outpatient departments (OPDs) and healthcare centres in Lesotho. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at public OPDs in district hospitals and healthcare centres in Lesotho using self-administered structured questionnaires targeting all employees in managerial positions. Ethical approval was obtained from a licensed Health Research Ethics Committee (HREC) (Ethics number: 00048-18-A1) and the Ministry of Health Ethics Committee and Review Board of Lesotho (ID120-2018). Data were analysed descriptively. Results: Ten respondents at the OPDs perceived that medicines for diabetes mellitus were available, and nine respondents thought medication for hypertension and asthma were also available. Eight respondents perceived that medicines for epilepsy were available at OPDs. At healthcare centres, 73.3% (n = 63) of respondents perceived that drugs for diabetes mellitus were available, 62.8% (n = 54) thought hypertension medicines were available, 68.6% (n = 59) indicated that medicines for asthma were available, and 61.6% (n = 53) of respondents perceived that medicines for epilepsy were also available. Conclusion: The majority of managers at OPDs and healthcare centres perceived that medication for hypertension, diabetes mellitus, asthma and epilepsy were available at health facilities. Thus, it suggests that public health facilities in Lesotho seem almost always to have medicines for NCDs.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Abstract:</strong> The prevalence of high mortality rates due to snake bites is widely found in Indian farmlands, as most poisonous snake varieties are found in these areas. Although many antivenoms, like antivenin, have been formulated to treat snake bites, they have limitations, such as high cost and difficulties in storage. Most deaths are primarily due to the time delay in treating snakebites. The venom&#8217;s activity, or its poisonous nature, has been attributed to enzymes such as Phospholipase A2, hyaluronidase, and protease. As a solution for this problem, the active site of these enzymes can be elucidated and inhibited using extracts from plants and food sources through docking studies. Literature reports suggest that Solanum nigrum compounds have shown high inhibitory activity. In this study, we analysed a list of upregulated compounds in response to venom enzymes. From the analysis, we filtered out eight possible compounds. A docking study was carried out on these bioactive compounds in Solanum nigrum. The mode of interaction of the bioactive compound was studied using AutoDock software. Insilico molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation were performed using Phospholipase A2 (1BK9) to understand the conformational changes and to analyse the optimal binding pocket. Analysis shows that it has very favourable predicted binding energy. The bonding interaction was formed between the active site of PLA2 and bioactive compounds. From the results, it has been observed that beta-sitosterol exhibits a favourable interaction with PLA2 (1BK9) compared to other bioactive compounds.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Abstract:</strong> As the review conducting ethnobotany deals with the link amongst people, livestock, and the environment with plants and gives details on how people of a particular culture and religious knowledge formulate the use of medicinal plants. Indigenous knowledge is the accumulation of procedural knowledge, cultural practices, and traditional knowledge that has developed over many years. The term &#8220;ethnobotany&#8221; was first used orally by John Hershberger in 1895. Medicinal Plants have been used as a vital source of prevention and healing for human and livestock ailments. Thus, traditional medicine refers to the knowledge and practices of a particular community, which utilise plants to diagnose and treat health problems in livestock and humans. Medicinal plants used in Ethiopia comprise 887 plant species, with 26 species being indigenous. The most effective plant species are identified and recorded for treating various human and animal ailments. Ethnoveterinary medicine is a traditional knowledge and practice to prevent and treat diseases encountered by livestock. In Ethiopia, medicinal plant species are not equally distributed throughout the country. In-situ conservation is a method of conserving and protecting medicinal plant species in their natural habitat. In contrast, Ex-situ conservation is a method of preserving and safeguarding medicinal plant species without their natural habitats. However, medicinal plants are declining rapidly due to ecological shifts, deforestation, urbanisation, loss of forests and woodlands, and agricultural expansion.</span></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Abstract:</strong> This reviewed work on the development of photosensitive nanoparticles (NPs) based on a photodegradable poly(o-nitrobenzyl acrylate) core (PNBA, a hydrophobic and biocompatible polymer) and a dextran-derived shell (dextran is a biodegradable and water-soluble bacterial polysaccharide). First, methods for synthesizing PNBA-N3 were demonstrated by 1) single electron transfer radical polymerization (SET-LRP) of onitrobenzyl acrylates and then 2) introducing a single azide end functionalization. At the same time, the processes for the production of DexAlkyne-15 bearing several alkyne groups by the hydrophilicity of dextran were also addressed. For example, DexAlkyne-15 and PNBA-N3 can be chemically reacted using CuAAC (Cu(I)-azide-alkyne cycloaddition catalyst), resulting in Dex-g-PNBA glycopolymers with varying molecular parameters. Second, strategies for producing NPs were demonstrated by comparing two processes that were characterized in terms of size, amount of dextran, coat thickness, and colloidal stability in NaCl or cell culture medium, or in the presence of a single potent surfactant. On the one hand, NPs made by nanodeposition of Dexg-PNBA exhibit high PNBA weight fractions (&gt;40%). On the other hand, the NPs were produced by evaporating the emulsion to the organic solvent using DexAlkyne-15 as a water-soluble surfactant and PNBA-N3 as a hydrophobic material. In this case, CuAAC occurred in situ (or not) at the fluid/liquid interface during the formulation of the NPs, resulting in “clicking” and “nonclicking”. Finally, a systematic study of the disorder in NPs induced by ultraviolet irradiation, specifically through the photolysis of PNBA chains, is presented. To utilise NPs as smart drug delivery systems, studies have demonstrated the loading of Doxorubicin (DOX, an anti-cancer agent) into NPs during their preparation. Methods for optimizing experimental conditions to enhance DOX encapsulation are discussed</span></p>
